Title:                        District Social Worker 

Reports to:              Director of Counseling and Social Services  

 

Job Goal:  To provide our students with the knowledge, skills and attitudes to become life-long learners and responsible citizens through the delivery of services to them and their families which strengthens home/school/community relationships and alleviates barriers to learning district wide. 

 

Desired Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Social Work (MSW) desired or equivalent professional social work degree from an accredited school  
  • Arizona State Social Worker License (LMSW) and Arizona School Social Worker Certification
  • One year of successful school social work experience or one year of field instruction in a school system, or six semester hours of acceptable coursework 
  • Knowledge of school, district and community resources available for students and families 
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the Social Work Code of Ethics and sensitivity to diverse cultures

 

Core Job Functions:

  • Serves as a district-wide liaison, support, and resource between schools, families, and community agencies
  • Establish and maintain partnerships with community resources to expand access to services for students and their families
  • Create, implement, and deliver professional development and training opportunities for staff to promote positive social, emotional, behavioral, and mental health in students
  • Collaborate with the director to develop and implement district-wide procedures, processes and best practices as they relate to counseling and social services
  • Assist families in accessing and utilizing school and community resources
  • Participate and act as a representative of the department on community task forces
  • Develop, expand, and organize parent, guardian, and community education and outreach opportunities
  • Onboard and mentor newly hired counseling and social work staff to ensure smooth integration of services on their school campuses
  • Supervise counselor and social work interns in appropriate field placements in conjunction with university personnel
  • Collect, review and analyze data for use in district-wide planning as it relates to a comprehensive counseling program
  • Consult with school personnel regarding potential problems affecting student academic progress, behavior, and personal well-being to brainstorm solutions
  • Continue professional growth to maintain knowledge of skills related to job functions and timely topics
  • Attend and participate in meetings which may occur beyond the staff’s normally scheduled work day 
  • Perform other related duties as assigned 
  • Perform all duties in a safe and prudent manner as directed
