JOB DESCRIPTION
CLASSIFICATION: Food & Nutrition
TITLE: Food & Nutrition Café Student Worker
SALARY: $14.75/hour
Job Goal: To assist in the preparation, serving and clean up of food in a quantity food service operation, using safe and efficient food handling practices. To provide accurate and efficient food service while adhering to excellence in customer service.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Ability to read and write English as it pertains to job functions
- Current Food Handler’s Certificate or acquire within 30 days of hire
- At least two current, letters of recommendation from school coach or teacher
- Vision and hearing adequate to exercise job responsibilities in a safe manner
- Ability to operate institutional equipment, desired
- Must adhere to dress code in kitchen for safety and sanitation purposes (closed toed, non-skid shoes, no jewelry, gloves over painted fingernails, etc.)
- Must display ability to communicate effectively with staff, co-workers, and students
- Must have knowledge and adhere to all policies, rules, and regulations
Core Job Functions:
- Prepare, stock & maintain serving line area and/or assist in food preparation and clean up
- Assist in accurately identifying a reimbursable meal on the serving line
- Assist in setting up serving line with appropriate serving equipment, utensils, safety measures
- Prepare and cook food according to food safety regulations while following all county and state guidelines as well as HACCP guidance
- Wash dishes and equipment according to Maricopa County Health Department guidelines
- Clean work areas and dispose of garbage as assigned
- Ensures product quality by visual inspection & adherence to cooking/serving guidelines provided to maintain customer satisfaction
- Maintain courteous relationships with students, staff, parents, and community, treating all with respect
- Performs all related duties as required
- Performs all duties in a safe and prudent manner as directed

Physical Requirements – Heavy Work:
- Positions in this classification typically require stooping, kneeling, crouching, standing, walking, sitting, finger or manual dexterity, repetitive finger motion, speaking, hearing, seeing (with correction), focusing ability, or other factors applicable to this job.
- Employee must be able to stand and walk constantly on various floor surfaces while performing various duties, including but not limited to using push/pull force of up to 50 lbs. for various machines
- Employee must stand constantly and walk frequently lifting items of various sizes, up to 30 lbs. Items over 50 lbs. require a second staff member to help lift.
